birds of a feather

We were inspired by the couple’s cultures & nature from their backgrounds. The guinea fowl stole the show as it became the moveable brunch & pool party card, & as a spotlight on the save the date & invitation. We were also inspired by the florals of their venue in Napa, California. Each cottage where the guests stayed was associated with a flower or fruit. You can play ‘I spy’ with the details / reply card to find all the cottage names, plus Rachel & Tomas’ two cats! Florals didn’t only show up there – we also included the florals of South Africa (King Protea), Zimbabwe (Flame Lily), & Argentina (Jacaranda) which can be seen in the Jacaranda tree centered on the save the date & split in two on the sides of the invitation card. The countries’ birds were also featured throughout the suite – Rufous Hornero for Argentina, Guinea Fowl for Zimbabwe, & Blue Crane for South Africa. We had a ton of fun illustrating everything to fit together perfectly & feel like they morphed into one tree & living in one space. We chose earth tones with pops of bright colors for the suite, as well as very textural print methods. We used a one color, full bleed letterpress print for the save the date, which made the letters look embossed (pushed out of the paper) because they were designed as knock-out text. The invitation utilized engraving to create a colored, large raised area that included the illustrations & wedding details. The couple’s names were letterpress printed to create interest & draw your eye to their information.
